Privacy policy
Amaru needs no account and has no analytics. This page says what stays on your Mac, what this website does, and what happens if you choose to sign in. Last updated 5 November 2026.
In short
- Amaru for macOS keeps your settings, notes, to-dos, pets and shelf in your user folder on your Mac.
- It has no analytics, no tracking and no advertising. Prompts and conversation text are never sent anywhere.
- An account is optional. If you sign in, Amaru receives your name and email from the sign-in provider and nothing else about you.
- Optional network features talk only to the hosts listed in the docs, and only after you switch them on.
The Amaru app
Everything the app needs to work is stored on your Mac: preferences, profiles, notes, to-dos, pets, shelf references and local token counts. Token counts are computed from local files and stay on your Mac. Removing the app and its folders in your user Library removes that data.
The app connects to the network only for features you turn on or press a button for, such as lyrics or plan limits. The Privacy and network table in the docs lists each feature, the host it talks to and what it sends. That table is the authoritative list; this page does not repeat it.
The optional Amaru account
You never need an account to download or use the free features. An account exists only for the optional Amaru Plus add-ons, which are not on sale yet.
What is collected
- When you sign in with Google: your name, email address and profile picture link, as Google shares them for sign-in. Amaru shows your name and email in Settings. Amaru does not read your Gmail, Drive, contacts or any other Google data, and asks for no permission beyond basic sign-in.
- An account record: an internal user ID, the email and name above, the sign-in provider and the dates you signed in.
- If you use Amaru Plus: which plan your account has, and when it ends if it does. A license key you type in is sent once to redeem it and is not kept in the app.
Why
Only to sign you in, to show who is signed in, and, for Plus, to know which downloads your account may fetch. The information Google shares is not used for advertising, is not sold, and is not used to build profiles. Amaru's use of information received from Google follows the Google API Services User Data Policy.
Where it goes
Amaru's account service runs on Supabase, and the app talks to that one host over HTTPS. Google handles the sign-in page itself. Your session and any Plus receipt are kept in your Mac's Keychain, and signing out removes them from the Mac. When Plus goes on sale, payments will be handled by a separate payment provider and Amaru will not see card details.
How long, and how to remove it
The account record is kept while the account exists. To have your account and its data deleted, write to the contact below and say which email you signed in with. Signing out of the app removes the session from your Mac but does not by itself delete the account record.
This website
The website is a static site hosted on Cloudflare. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Like any website host, Cloudflare processes request data such as your IP address to deliver the pages and protect the site. The pages load their fonts from Google Fonts, which can see your IP address and browser when it serves them. A short animation on the home page remembers in your browser tab, for that session only, that you have seen it.
Downloads are the same zip file for everyone. The page shows its size and SHA-256 checksum so you can check it.
Children
Amaru is a general utility and is not directed at children under 13. Please do not create an account if you are under 13.
Changes to this policy
